Principal Applications Engineer

OVERVIEW


The PMIC Application Engineer works closely with the design team to bring-up and road test new silicon. The successful candidate will be comfortable in the lab environment with all kinds of test and measurement equipment, be familiar with common DC/DC power converters, and be comfortable troubleshooting complex PMIC issues.  This engineer will also be assigned technical leadership responsibilities commensurate with the candidate’s seniority and experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE

  • Develop and execute plans in coordination with design engineers to (1) bring up new silicon, (2) characterize performance, and (3) search for potential bugs by finding ways to “break the part”
  • Develop hardware and software tools (e.g. Matlab test scripts ) as needed
  • Road test PMICs to ensure IC meets silicon specifications and design intent
  • Work with cross-functional teams and design experiments to debug root-cause of issues
  • Organize, report, compare, and present results and conclusions in an organized way
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Ideal: MSEE with at least 10+ years’ experience in power management IC applications engineering
  • Minimum: BSEE with 2+ year’s industry experience
  • Deep understanding of DC/DC power converters like Buck/ Boost/ Buck-Boost/Charge pumps
  • Familiar with common chip-to-chip communication protocols such as MIPI, SPI, I2C, PMBUS
  • Familiar with developing test software scripts using MATLAB, Python, or similar
  • Hands-on experience using common lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, SMUs, electronic loads and network/impedance analyzers
  • Execute PMIC road test plans
  • Troubleshoot and debug power mgmt questions with designer input
