Overview
As Audio Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll work closely with the R&D team of one of our major clients. You'll have a high degree of device architectural and audio transducer design and integration influence on their acoustic custom speaker modules. Together with your colleagues, you'll contribute to the development of the next cutting-edge social-first hardware devices across AR/VR/Home.
You'll become part of a team exploring and developing early ideas, prototypes for the mass-production of consumer electronics. You'll work as part of a cross-functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in the domains of mechanical and electroacoustic engineering. Our ideal candidate has strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, prototyping skills, CAD fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, and experience designing consumer electronics. Together with acoustic transducer design engineers, you'll frame qualitative experiences to quantitative data during deep cross-functional dialog to balance a given form factor with acoustic performance, reliability, power consumption, and cost.
Key Responsibilities And Activities Include
?Lead complex micro-plastic mechanical solutions such as audio micro-speaker modules using insert-molded steel plates and acoustic meshes
?Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and establish test systems for mechanical validations.
?Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping high volume products.
?Leverage external teams (CM/JDM/Vendors) to maximize the focus of our internal resources on adding value and differentiation to our products.
?Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems.
?Communicate trade-offs, program concerns, and technicals.
?Factory prototype production support (onsite and/or offsite).
?Travel to external vendors up to 15%.
Education And Experience Requirements
?Minimum BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
?Minimum 4+ years’ of product design and development experience of micro-speakers, or similar in high volume consumer electronics.
?Solid experience in at least one of the major 3D CAD tools, preferably in NX CAD
?Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing.
?Working knowledge of material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, glass, etc.
?Testing and analysis experience (Design of Experiments, mold flow, etc.)
?Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, injection molding, etc.).
? Experience with products requiring cosmetic surface treatments and interfacing with industrial design teams is highly beneficial
? Experience with Asian vendor's cross-functional communication
